Andy Lee would not back down from Gennady Golovkin test as he plans comeback

Andy Lee has yet to enter the ring in 2016 but, for his comeback bout, he's definitely not shying away from any challenges.

Limerick's Lee has revealed that he would be open to a crack at middleweight king Gennady Golovkin as he looks to shake off any ring rust that's gathered since his last outing, a majority decision defeat to Billy Joe Saunders. Just hours after Golovkin shattered Kell Brook's eye socket, forcing the Sheffield fighter's corner to throw in the towel, Lee's camp released a statement in which they claimed that a title fight against either the Kazakh knockout artist or WBA champion Danny Jacobs interests them greatly. Lee said: "I have had a bit of a lay off since my last fight, but I want to get back to boxing, what better way to get back than in a championship fight. I have no qualms about challenging Danny or Gennady or any other top fighter, I am in the business of fighting that is what I do for a living. As a professional athlete I want to test myself and fight and beat the best, that has been my motivation during my career." Lee actually fought Golovkin in 2003, as an amateur,when he lost on points before GGG went on to claim the gold medal at the World Championships. They were scheduled to face off as professionals in 2014, in New York, but the fight was cancelled when Golovkin's father passed away. Golovkin has since gone on to become one of the biggest names in world boxing, with his perfect record of 36 victories, 33 of which came via knockout, cementing his status as one of the most entertaining fighters currently competing.
