Jamie Conlan dispatches opponent to move to 15-0 in front of Dublin crowd

Jamie Conlan stole the show at National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday night.

The Belfast fighter retained his WBO Inter-Continental super flyweight title after stopping Adrian Dimas Garzon midway through the fourth round. The fight was only ever going Conlan's way as The Mexican dominated from the outset, keeping his 39 year old opponent guessing by mixing up devastating shots to the body and head. Garzon was clearly outclassed and had already been dropped by Conlan's power before the referee stepped in and called an end to proceedings in the fourth, awarding Conlan his fifteenth consecutive victory and ninth inside the distance. Conlan, older brother of amateur world champion Michael, is expected to take on former IBF bantamweight champion Paul Butler in a world title eliminator next year. On a terrific evening for Irish fighters at the National Stadium, Jamie Kavanagh's homecoming was a successful one as he finished Oszkar Fiko in the seventh round to move to 20-1-1 while Sean Turner stopped Gabor Farkas in the first round of their bout. Dublin's David Maguire did the same to Jozef Kusmirek while Declan Geraghty looked impressive as he outpointed Reynaldo Cajina. In other action, Ian Tims took the spoils in a back-and-forth cruiserweight clash with Michael Sweeney and Peter McDonagh was awarded a decision victory over Dean Byrne to claim the vacant Irish welterweight title.
