The 39-year-old Portuguese gaffer will take charge of his first Premier League game this Sunday, as Manchester United travel to Portman Road to take on Ipswich.
For the fans it is another dose of déjà vu, as he becomes the sixth permanent manager at the club since Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013.
Ahead of his first press conference later today, Amorim sat down with Gary Neville for Sky Sports to discuss his experience so far at Old Trafford and the difficulty of leaving Sporting CP in the middle of the season.
Amorim said: "I already had conversations with clubs, so it was quite normal. But what I felt at the time was 'this is my place'. I think it was the right club in the right moment for me.
"It's very tough to leave Sporting, because it's in the middle of the season. You can say everything, 'it's Manchester United', 'it's everything', 'it's the moment', 'it's the club that I want', but you are leaving your guys in the middle of the season. So it was really hard, but I had to do it and I was so happy. Of course, you can see it in every interview that I have.
"But I also felt that in the first moment it is a little bit overwhelming. But after five minutes you start thinking about the club, the team, the players, how to play. So it was quite fun."
Many supporters will believe, or at least say they do, that this appointment will be different, but we have heard that one a few times before. And until the consistency and trophies start to flow, the club's failings on and off the pitch will continue to be a source of great amusement for the rest of the Premier League.
