Christian Eriksen looks set to stick with Spurs

Christian Eriksen could now sign a long-term deal with Tottenham Hotspur, days after saying he was open to leaving the club. The Danish international gave an interview to media in his homeland which confirmed he was ready to take on a new challenge in his career after six years with the north London club. This, some have suggested, was prompted by interest from Real Madrid, who Spanish outlet AS claim have reached a verbal agreement with the 27-year-old. After a disappointing 2018/19 campaign, Real were expected to overhaul their squad in time for next season. Having already finalised moves for Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard, Eriksen was also thought to be one of the names on Florentino Perez's list. This, however, no longer seems to be the case. Manager Zinedine Zidane has reportedly insisted he wants the club to sign Manchester United's Paul Pogba. With Perez said to have agreed to move for the French international, Real's interest in Eriksen has cooled, leaving the former Ajax playmaker in limbo over his future. AS now claim Eriksen is 'losing patience' as he waits for a phone call from Real, and that he may choose to ink a new contract with Tottenham instead. His current deal expires at the end of next season, meaning if a substantial offer came in for him, Daniel Levy would at least have to seriously consider it or face the prospect of him leaving for nothing in 12 months. AS's report claims that Spurs would expect to receive a fee of around €70m (£62m) to sign the player during this transfer window.
