Djibril Cisse has come out of retirement for an odd move

Djibril Cisse confirmed his retirement from football earlier this year, after he was unable to earn a contract at his first professional club, Auxerre. The former Liverpool fan favourite originally hung up his boots in 2015 due to injury but came out of retirement to train with Auxerre and hopefully convince the French side to put their faith in him. Cisse confirmed his move to Swiss third division side Yverdon Sport FC via Twitter on Monday evening. https://twitter.com/DjibrilCisse/status/881976305436282882 https://twitter.com/DjibrilCisse/status/882141966959611904 Cisse is certainly the biggest name to ever feature for Yverdon and with almost 250 career goals to his name, he'll be expected to flourish at that level of competition. The forward is best remembered from his time at Liverpool, where he was a member of the Reds' famous 2005 Champions League winning squad. The Frenchman scored a penalty in the shootout but almost missed the final due to injury. “I asked to take a pen,” Cisse recently told Soccer AM.

“My story is a little bit unusual, the way to the final. Four months earlier I was on crutches, trying to get fit for the next season – not to play Champions League football. “So, I was so lucky and so proud of everything I achieved to be there to help my team that night. For me, it was no pressure and no stress: just take your pen, do what you do best – scoring goals – and try to help your team as much as you can. “It was unexpected for me to be there, in front of [the] amazing Liverpool fans.”
