Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is reportedly in consideration for the manager role at Italian club AS Roma, according to sources including La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Following his stint as interim manager at Chelsea in 2023, Lampard has remained on the lookout for his next managerial position.
With Roma possibly on the hunt for a new head coach, Lampard’s name has re-entered the conversation as a potential fit for the club.
Lampard, who began his managerial career with Derby County in 2018, impressed with a successful first season by reaching the Championship play-off final.
This early achievement earned him the managerial role at Chelsea, where he guided a young squad through a transitional period, securing a top-four Premier League finish in his first season.
However, his tenure was cut short in January 2021 after mixed results in his second season. Thomas Tuchel replaced the former England midfielder and guided the Blues to the Champions League crown a few months later.
Lampard then took charge of Everton in early 2022, where he initially helped the club avoid relegation, but a poor start to the following season saw him leave by early 2023.
He then returned to Chelsea for a second spell in the dugout for the final few months of the 2022/23 season, working as the club's interim manager after Graham Potter was sacked.
Roma’s management has reportedly started discussions with other candidates, including Paulo Sousa and Torino manager Ivan Juric, as speculation grows about their current manager’s future.
Despite initial talks this summer for the Burnley job, the Clarets appointed Scott Parker.
Though no final decision has been made, sources close to the Everton organisation have suggested that the Friedkin family, Roma’s owners, could consider Lampard among other candidates.
As the managerial carousel in Europe continues, Lampard may yet find his return to top-level management with the Italian giants.
