Ranieri was named 2016 Fifa coach of the year and looked on course to have a statue in his honour built outside the King Power stadium.
However, the Foxes have struggled this season. Leicester have yet to score a league goal in 2017. They are currently one point and one place above the relegation zone, and face Liverpool on Monday in the league.
They have won just five games in the Premier League this season, and there have been reports of unrest among the players in the dressing room.

Ranieri's last game in-charge was on Wednesday night, when Leicester lost 2-1 away to Sevilla in the last-16 of the Champions League.
However, the Italian won't get the chance to see-out Leicester's European campaign.
The reaction to Ranieri getting sacked has been mostly of sadness, with Gary Lineker summing it up best.
The Leicester native, former Foxes striker and lifelong fan of the club called the decision "inexplicable, unforgivable and gut-wrenchingly sad."
