Heimir Hallgrimsson will name his first squad selection as manager ahead of the Uefa Nations League matches in Dublin next week.
The Icelandic coach, however, has said that he will rely on the expertise of his coaches - John O'Shea and Paddy McCarthy - when picking the Ireland team.
Hallgrimmson, who previously coached Jamaica and his native Iceland, has admitted that he is still not yet an 'expert' on the Irish players.
"I’m not going to even try to lie about being an expert on Irish players," he said last week.
"So that’s why it’s so important to have John (O’Shea) and Paddy (McCarthy) with me.
"This selection of the squad will probably be more or less based on their opinion, because there are three or four games maximum that the players have played in the league and you can’t jump in and say, ‘Ah, you played really good yesterday, you should be in the Irish squad.’
"They know the character of the players. As time goes on I will definitely know more and more, so I can take over more of the selection and have more to say.
"I think it’s really strong to have these two guys in the coaching staff.
"They have been in for the last four matches and the changes I saw in those games, I thought they were good."
Ireland start their Uefa Nations League campaign against England on Saturday, September 7, before playing Greece on September 10.
Both matches will be played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
