The full extent of the distance between Jose Mourinho and Ryan Giggs is becoming clear

Jose Mourinho has ruled out any possibility of Ryan Giggs being his assistant at Manchester United, according to a report in the Times.

Matt Hughes' report also states that Mourinho has yet to even have a conversation with Giggs, despite being confirmed as United manager three weeks ago. Mourinho, according to Hughes' report, was not impressed with how Giggs distanced himself from both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal at certain crucial moments during their time as manager of Manchester United. Perhaps most notably last season as Manchester United lost to Norwich at Old Trafford, Giggs spent much of the game on the touchline giving instructions to the players while Van Gaal sat passive in the dugout, absorbing the glare of the television cameras. At the time many felt that was an attempt from Giggs to disassociate himself with Van Gaal's regime. Mourinho is also said to be unimpressed with Giggs' close friendship with Paul Scholes. Scholes became the biggest vocal critic of Van Gaal during the Dutchman's two seasons in charge, a situation that you would surely feel could have been brought to a halt if Giggs had intervened. Mourinho is looking for an assistant who will provide "unswerving loyalty and complete support" and does not feel that Giggs fits the bill. Mourinho is instead set to turn to Rui Faria to be his assistant at Old Trafford. Giggs, presumably, will end his 30-year association with Manchester United and take a managerial job elsewhere.
