Kurt Zouma has signed for Romanian side CFR Cluj in a shock free transfer, but there is plenty more to the story.
The defender, 30, has penned a two-year deal with the SuperLiga side, who play in Transylvania.
He had been a free agent since leaving West Ham in June, with the move including an option for a third year.
Zouma is perhaps now best known for being filmed kicking a cat in 2022 while playing for West Ham, for which he was given 180 hours of community service.
And can you guess the European country with the highest percentage of cat ownership? Yep. Romania.

A 2024 study proved that almost half the households in Romania, 48%, have at least one cat.
Only Poland come close to Romania’s ownership rate – with 41%.
Zouma’s move was reportedly facilitated by Cluj’s incoming sporting director Mikael Silvestre, the former Man Utd and Arsenal defender.
Zouma said in his signing statement: “New chapter unlocked. Romania, Kurt Zouma is here."
