The fiancée of a Newcastle United player has told him to leave the club because she doesn’t like the city.
In a damning assessment of the city, the wife of Loris Karius – Italian TV presenter Diletta Leotta – cited how being far away from each other has been a struggle, especially after the recent birth of their daughter, Aria.
“I live in Milan, so let’s say being close to Milan would be ideal for us. I always tell him, players who come to Serie A then fall in love with Italy and often stay there forever. I think that could happen to him too.
“[He should join] Monza or any other team in Italy. I would be happy if he came to Italy to play near his family.”
Leotta also admitted that she wasn’t the biggest fan of the city in the north east and how it is far more difficult to get to compared to living somewhere like Manchester or London.
“Newcastle is very inconvenient because there are no direct flights. Neither about Paris nor about Amsterdam,” she added.
Karius joined the Magpies as the club’s third choice goalkeeper but has been forced into action on some occasions.
Most famously the former Liverpool ‘keeper had to start in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final defeat against Newcastle United against Manchester United after Nick Pope was ruled out through injury and Martin Dubravka ineligible having already featured for United.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season so he could find himself on the move in the summer and reunited with his family.
