Man United star Amad Diallo has come under fire for giving the middle finger to fans.
The Ivory Coast man was walking with his teammates outside their hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during their post-season tour.
Naturally, he was criticised for the obscene gesture, but, according to BBC Sport, he had been on the end of "serious personal abuse".
The player also took to X to explain his actions.
He wrote: "I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mom…
"I shouldn't have reacted like that but I don't regret what I did.🤞🏾
"We had a great time in Malaysia with good people"
After a shock 1-0 loss to the ASEAN All-Stars, Man United boss Ruben Amorim said: "We want to give something to the fans, but it's hard in this moment - we just want to turn the page and improve next season.
"We cannot hide that it is really tough in this moment for us not to close the season, but if there is one thing that is really important in this club it is that we need to face our fans in this moment, and we need to give something to our fans around the world.
"Yes, a disappointing result, but no injuries and a tough pitch.
"We don’t have it in us not to choke in every exercise, in every game, that is what happened.
"We should win these kind of games, no matter what. We need to bring that inside of us in every game.
"The important thing is no injuries with this weather and to arrive here in this day. It is not an excuse, we should perform better."
