Manchester United legend Jaap Stam has revealed that he would love to work under Roy Keane if the Irishman decides to return to management.
Despite being consistently employed as a club boss since 2014, Stam - who played with Keane for Man United from 1998 to 2001, when the Red Devils won three Premier League titles and the Treble - would be happy to be number two to Keane.
The Cork man, on the other hand, hasn't been involved in management since he was assistant to Martin O'Neill at Nottingham Forest in 2019, and has not been a manager at club level since leaving Ipswich Town in 2011.
He previously guided Sunderland to the Premier League, and kept them in the division, as manager of the Black Cats between 2006 and 2008.
Speaking with BoyleSports, Stam - who currently manages his hometown club DOS Kampen in the Netherlands' seventh tier - said:
"I would love to see Roy Keane back in management and I’d love to be his assistant manager.
"I think he has the potential to be a great manager because he knows so much about the game.
"He can give a lot of individual advice to players and how they can improve, but the decision will be up to him. He is doing well in punditry at the moment."
"It’s a very different life in management, day and night, you have to be ready for the lifestyle and the club in question and the players.
"I’m sure he enjoys his current role but I’d love to see him in the dugout again, if he needs an assistant then I’ll be there."
