Manchester United have reportedly made a shock enquiry to sign a highly-rated star from a Premier League Big Six rival.
Ruben Amorim officially becomes the manager of the Red Devils on Monday, however, is unable to take charge of training sessions yet due to not receiving a work permit.
Ruud van Nistelrooy managed his final game as interim manager on Sunday, cruising to victory against Steve Cooper's Leicester City 3-0.
The United legend and former striker will meet with Amorim this week to discuss his future at the club and his role going forward.
Whilst talks will take place, United have reportedly already identified a January target which would be of huge significance.
The Athletic report that United are close to FFP limits, meaning winter spending won't be of large amounts, due to the costs of firing Erik Ten Hag and acquiring Amorim from Sporting CP.
However, according to French outlet L'Equipe, the Red Devils have made an enquiry for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
The French attacker, 26, has been out of favour under Enzo Maresca and is reportedly unhappy with his playing time at Stamford Bridge.
In seven appearances in other competitions, he has scored nine goals.
Chelsea are seen to be willing to listen to offers for the attacker, although it is uncertain whether they would entertain business with a direct rival.
