Ireland have a strong crop of young attackers right now, but there is hope that even more talent will break through over the next few years. One of the most exciting names in that conversation is Rocco Vata, who has taken a major step forward this season.
The 20-year-old has impressed for Watford in the Championship, scoring twice and adding two assists. Before joining the Hornets, he developed through the academy at Celtic. His progress continued at international level too. Vata made his senior Ireland debut in March, coming off the bench in the UEFA Nations League play-off against Bulgaria.
Now, attention is turning to his long-term future.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed at the weekend that several European clubs are already lining up for Vata ahead of 2026. But it appears the competition is even stronger within England.
According to Mail Sport, Crystal Palace and Fulham are both eager to sign the winger. European sides Atalanta and Eintracht Frankfurt have also heavily scouted him. Reports suggest Watford would seek a fee of around £20 million if they decide to sell.
A move to the Premier League would naturally appeal to a young Irish attacker, although recent examples show the benefits of moving abroad. Several Ireland internationals have found success after taking opportunities on the continent.
Vata will also be hoping to grow his international role. An injury kept him out of the November window, but strong club form could push him into contention for Ireland’s World Cup play-offs in March.
Whatever happens next, 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year. With Premier League clubs and major European sides circling, Rocco Vata is becoming one of Ireland’s most-watched young talents.
