Tottenham reportedly pushing to convince Antonio Conte to succeed Nuno Espirito Santo

Antonio Conte appears to be Tottenham's number one target.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pushing to convince Antonio Conte to take over as manager after announcing that they had sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday morning. Nuno was relieved of his duties after just four months in charge following Spurs' 3-0 home loss to Manchester United on Saturday evening.

Spurs failed to register a shot on target in a home league game for the first time since 2013 as United cruised to a much-needed win after their own humiliation at the hands of Liverpool the weekend before. Tottenham reportedly interested in appointing Antonio Conte.

Romano reports that Conte and Tottenham are in advanced discussions about the vacant position and talks will continue on Monday afternoon. The Italian coach last managed at Inter Milan, where he won the club's first league title in a decade but left after two years following a fall-out with the club's board. Conte previously had a successful spell in charge of Chelsea between 2016 and 2018, when he helped the Blues win the Premier League title and the FA Cup. The 52-year-old was previously in charge of the Italian national team between 2014 and 2016, and was Juventus manager between 2011 and 2014. Conte won three Serie A titles as manager of the Turin club. The Italian has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, but after the weekend's result, the Red Devils look likely to stick with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the time being at least. Romano reports that sporting director Fabio Paratici is working on bringing Conte in as a priority, while other names linked with the job include former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca and Brighton manager Graham Potter.
