The LA Galaxy played fifth division amateur side La Máquina FC in the U.S. Open Cup the other night, and unsurprisingly, they hammered them 4-1. Even though Galaxy had a severely weakened squad thanks to Euro 2016 and Copa America, they still got the job done, but they didn't do it in style.
The scoreline doesn't tell the whole story as the game was tied 1-1 after extra time until Galaxy had to resort to some fairly poor sportsmanship to break the deadlock.
After one of their players went down after being fouled, La Máquina and a few Galaxy players huddled around him, expecting play to stop. The referee didn't stop play, but he didn't exactly wave it on either, instead opting to go have a look at the incident without really doing anything.
That's when Galaxy decided to pounce, pass the ball to the free man who had broken off from the crowd around the downed player, who calmly slotted it into the goal.
