For Messi it was a fairytale end as he finally ended his wait to win the World Cup where as for Ronaldo it was quite the opposite as Portugal crashed out of the cup at the quarter final stage to Morocco.
On Wednesday morning the official World Cup Twitter account posted a picture of Ronaldo with his thumbs up captioned: "Thumbs up if you really enjoyed the #FIFAWorldCup."
Although it was more than likely an innocent post, those who saw the post were less than impressed.
One fan wrote: "Disgusting. This shows the people posting this are not fair and have always sided Messi. The truth is you can never speak about Messi without mentioning CR7 and vice versa. They’ve made my youthful years and I will forever be grateful that I can tell the new generation about them."
A second tweeted: "Next level trolling from @FIFAWorldCup."
Another person said: "They deleted that Ronaldo tweet again. What’s wrong with @FIFAWorldCup?"
Ronaldo is currently without a club after leaving Manchester United in November following an agreement to terminate his contract early days after his explosive TV interview with Piers Morgan.
