Dr Crokes made it back-to-back Kerry SFC titles yesterday, September 14, with a 0-20 to 1-12 win over Na Gaeil at Austin Stack Park.
After the game, they brought the trophy to the grave of late clubmate Jamie Doolan, who passed away on July 28.
Doolan played with the Kerry minors in 2006 and 2007 and won an U21s All-Ireland with the Kingdom in 2008.
He was also involved as a selector and manager with his club at both minor and senior level.
At the time of his death, the traditional club homecoming of the All-Ireland winning captain, which was Dr Crokes man Gavin White, was cancelled as a mark of respect.
In a tribute statement, his club wrote: “Jamie was a brilliant underage player representing Dr Crokes at all levels before turning his hand to management, and he was involved in senior and minor management teams over the last number of years.
“A very knowledgeable selector who was very popular with all club members, Jamie will be sorely missed by his many friends in the club.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Doolan family in this difficult time. As a mark of respect tomorrow night’s captain’s homecoming to the Dr Crokes clubhouse will not be going ahead. May Jamie rest in peace.”
