However, doubt has been cast on whether or not this ex GAA star was ever ill, and according to the Daily Mirror, a number of people have made complaints to gardai that he used the money for his own personal use.
Gardai confirmed that officers in the Eastern region had begun a major investigation into the individual but will not comment further as it is ongoing.
