A brawl involving fans and players broke out during Saturday’s Wicklow SFC quarter-final match between Rathnew and Carnew, leaving at least one supporter needing hospital treatment.
Footage has emerged of an off-field incident which prompted a fight in the stands in the closing moments of the match at Echelon Park in Aughrim.
Spectators were initially involved, but footage shows players also entered the terrace to get involved.
Local newspapers the Bray People and Wicklow People reported that one supporter needed treatment in hospital.
Wicklow GAA Chairperson Damien Byrne told the Irish Independent that the County Board will “await for referee’s report and our [CCCC] disciplinary committee will then meet over the next couple of days to assess and review all aspects of our games”.
Byrne also said the Board “does not condone this behaviour at our games.”
Carnew progressed to the county final with a 2-14 to 1-08 win in the match.
