Brian O’Driscoll is a handy golfer but one retired tennis star is on another level

Some of these are quite impressive.

Every now and again you see a photo of a former or current sports star playing golf. This inevitably leaves you asking yourself, "I wonder is he any good?" Well, the BMW PGA Championship starts next weekend and will host a star-studded Pro-Am on 24 May. The lovely people at the European Tour released a full listing the participating former sports stars and their handicaps. Brian O'Driscoll - 9  Probably Ireland's greatest ever rugby player and his golfing skills aren't too shabby either, being a single digit handicapper. Keith Wood - 5  One man who has a case as greatest Irish rugby player is Keith Wood. If he wasn't as good on the pitch as O'Driscoll he is certainly better on the course by playing off five. Ryan Giggs - 16 Giggs no doubt has been working on his golf game since he left Manchester United last summer but he doesn't measure up well to the rest of the field playing off 16. Paul Scholes - 10 Retired a little bit longer than Giggs, Scholes has a golf game six shots better than his former teammate. Peter Schmeichel - 9  The best of the three Manchester United legends is this big Dane, playing off nine. Alan Shearer - 6 The Premier League's all-time top goalscorer is not a one trick pony, he can play golf too. He's off six. Teddy Sheringham - 5  He may not have as many goals as Shearer but he does have the edge on the tee. Robbie Fowler - 12 Much like the second half of his career, Fowler's golf game is a bit ugly. Kenny Dalglish - 6 His golf skills match his managerial skills, very good but not the great. Jamie Redknapp - 4 More known for TV punditry than his footballing career these days, early retirement meant Redknapp has had a lot of time to improve that golf game. Andriy Shevchenko - 3  After playing a professional golf tournament in 2013, Shevchenko missed the cut and finished 40 shots off the lead. Still though, playing off three is nothing to turn your nose up at. Tim Henman - +1  No slagging here, plus one is sickeningly good. Shane Lowry turned pro at plus five so you're nearly there Tim.
