Rory McIlroy set to feature in Happy Gilmore 2 alongside Adam Sandler

From Holywood to Hollywood.

A second Happy Gilmore movie was confirmed by Netflix in May, with Adam Sandler set to reprise his role.

The original was a box-office hit on its release in 1996, making nearly $40 million worldwide, and cemented Sandler as one of the biggest comedy stars of the 90s.

Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are confirmed to return to the cast, and now it sounds as though the services of Rory McIlroy have been recruited alongside them.

According to Today's Golfer,  McIlroy's manager, Sean O'Flaherty, was overheard at Wentworth revealing that the Northern Irishman wouldn't be able to attend an upcoming event because he's slated for the Happy Gilmore sequel.

O'Flaherty is quoted saying: "He can't because it clashes with the Happy Gilmore shooting." O'Flaherty is quoted saying.

During a recent appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show in the US, Gilmore teased a few high-profile appearances in the much-anticipated sequel.

"There is going to be a lot of that, yeah," the Uncut Gems star said. While McIlroy's cameo remains unconfirmed, Sandler did let slip that NFL icon Travis Kelce will make an appearance.

"Travis did mention it, so we have a nice something for Travis," he said.

Scottie Scheffler and Tiger Woods are also rumoured to feature in the film. Netflix will be hoping the new film proves even more successful than the first, which grossed $40m worldwide.

Considering the next season of Full Swing will mostly feature the four-time major winner losing out on the US Open, The Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship, a more positive and light-hearted narrative for McIlroy in Happy Gilmore 2.
