Rory McIlroy's ten year wait for a major goes on after a one-shot loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open.
McIlroy was within touching distance of the title when he led by two shots with five holes to play but it all ended in heartbreak with a pair of narrow missed putts on holes sixteen and eighteen.
DeChambeau then held his nerve with a brilliant up-and-down from the bunker on the last to seal his second US Open title.
It was disappointment once again for McIlroy who had put himself in a brilliant position after a remarkable mid-round surge where he holed birdie putts from everywhere around the turn. All the while, his main rival DeChambeau was finding himself in trouble with a string of wayward tee shots.
But it all came crumbling down at the finish as the putter went stone cold.
Rory then made a swift exit from the Pinehurst No.2 scene, without taking part in the usual post-round interviews.
