Following the round, and prior to McIlroy's play-off with Justin Rose, DeChambeau gave an interview with NBC where he mentioned that the uber-focused McIlroy did not speak to him during the round.
When asked about how McIlroy was doing, DeChambeau replied:
"No idea. Didn't talk to me once all day. He wouldn't talk to me."
With these shorts clips edited together, the comments came across as salty, but it is not uncommon for golfers to keep to themselves with so much at stake.
The rest of the interview showed a softer side to Bryson as well, with the reigning US Open champion admitting that he "wanted to cry" for McIlroy after his disastrous shot into the water on 13, which lead to a double bogey.
DeChambeau also pointed out that McIlroy's unwillingness to talk was because he was focused.
He added, "I wanted to cry for him. I mean, as a professional, you just know to hit it into the middle of the green, and I can't believe he went for it, or must have just flared it.
"But I've hit bad shots in my career too, so it happens. And when you're trying to win a major championship, especially out there, Sunday at Augusta, the Masters, you have to just do it and get the job done and do it right.
"(The atmosphere was) electric. I loved it. But he was just like...being focused, I guess. It's not me, though."
Particularly so soon after a disappointing round, the American can be forgiven for the comments.
