Sergio Garcia couldn’t resist a cheeky dig after Ryder Cup triumph

"I don't usually cry, but I couldn't help it. What a week."

Sergio Garcia had some doubters heading into the 2018 Ryder Cup. Europe had even more. Thomas Bjorn assembled his team against an American unit that was the most star-studded of all time. Few predicted a European win, heading into this one, and fewer still after America went 3-1 up at Friday lunchtime. Europe fought back superbly and, on Sunday afternoon, won 17.5 to 10.5 to take the trophy back from American hands. Garcia won three points for Europe and justified his selection as a wildcard. "It's been a rough year," he told Sky Sports after beating Rickie Fowler, "but you know, we fought hard. Obviously so thankful for Thomas to pick me and believe in me, and you know, so happy, so happy to get the Cup back here in Paris and in Europe and for everyone to enjoy it as much as they did." "Yeah, it means a lot but at the end of the day, I've always said it. It's about the team and I'm happy that I was able to help. I'm happy that I was able to help with some of the points. It's a bonus. It's something that I never thought I would have the possibility of doing it, and now that it's happened, you know, I'm just so happy. I mean, these guys are unbelievable."

If Garcia was not getting carried away, teammate Justin Rose showed up to do it for him. They embraced and you could see what the victory meant to them. Before the interview wrapped up, the Spaniard had some praise for his team and he reproached all the doubters.

"It was a hell of a team. No doubt about that, but it shows how good we are, too. I think that a lot of people thought that the Ryder Cup was over before it was played and I guess unfortunately they picked the wrong team!"
