But it's not only our players who are world renowned.
Our resorts are the same.
Ireland is famous for it's stunning scenery, and this plays a huge part when creating some of the most beautiful golf courses known to man.
From Carton House, to Druid's Glen, to Slieve Russell, Ireland offers some of the best locations for a golf getaway.
Golfscape.com recently published their definitive list of the 18 greatest golf resorts in the world, and it is of no surprise that Ireland features on the list.
Not once, but twice.
First of all, coming in at number 14 is the Portmarnock Hotel & Golf links.
Portmarnock is built on the site of the old Jameson family home and encompasses many of the attributes that golfers look for in a links course; deep bunkers, unpredictable winds and challenging roughs.
An extremely challenging course, it is all made worthwhile by the stunning hotel amenities. The Links Portmarnock was opened for play in 1995.
The second of the two resorts named among the top 18 in the world is none other than Adare Manor which flew in at number one on the list. Wow!
Owned by famed business man JP McManus, Adare Manor is located on the banks of the River Maigue in Adare village, county Limerick. Described by many as one of the best courses in the world, the resort sits on an 840 acre estate which operates a 5-star hotel.
Adare Manor has the quality and infrastructure to host the worlds largest golf tournaments and played host to the Irish Open in 2007 & 2008, as well as the JP McManus Invitational Pro Am in 2005 & 2010.
