Good news as Baltazar King diagnosed with broken ribs after Aintree fall

Trainer Philip Hobbs is hopeful that Grand National horse Balthazar King will recover from his fall at Aintree yesterday

Last year's runner-up in the race was heavily backed again this year but suffered a damaging fall at the Canal Turn during the first circuit of the Liverpool course, and was attended to by on-course vets before being transferred to an equine hospital. He was later diagnosed with suspected broken ribs and was in a 'comfortable' condition. Hobbs said: 'They think he's probably broken some ribs. Hopefully he'll be okay.' With Irish jockey Davy Condon escaping serious injury - he was diagnosed with a concussion after a fall from Portrait King - it's great to be able to report no casualties from the big race.
