Irish jockey Connor King fractures vertebrae in nasty fall at Galway races

Connor King is expected to be out for six to eight weeks after suffering a fall at the Galway races on Tuesday.

The Cork native was riding Sea Captain in the 6:50pm Caulfield Industrial European Breeders Fund Maiden when he slipped off the horse a furlong into the race. Racegoers were left concerned over the condition of the jockey after the heavy fall and he was immediately attended to by medical staff. King was fully conscious with mobility in all his limbs after the fall before being taken to hospital for further testing. The CT scan taken on Tuesday came back all clear but the Irish Turf Club's chief medical advisor Dr Adrian McGoldrick revealed to Sky Sports that he arranged an MRI scan on Wednesday morning after being unconvinced by the results.

"The CT scans came back clear, but I just wasn't 100 per cent happy with him so he's had an MRI scan this morning and he has a stable fracture of his T8 (vertebra)." "So far we have just seen the preliminary report, but he will probably be out of action for six to eight weeks."
