The big focus this weekend for racing fans may be on AP McCoy's swansong as a jockey, but it's doubtful anyone will let the weekend go without a thought for Robbie McNamara. The Limerick man is recovering from a serious fall at Wexford earlier this month, when he broke eight ribs,cracked six vertebrae as well as puncturing a lung. The jockey is recovering in the Mater hospital in Dublin but managed to get out in the sunshine on Tuesday as his recovery continues. https://twitter.com/RobbiepMcN/status/590611982434377728 The jockey, who was knocked off his mount Burlesdon the day before the Grand National and his scheduled ride on Lord Windermere, has admitted that so far he still has no feeling in his legs. Speaking to the Final Furlong Podcast the jockey said that he is feeling good and is hopeful of a full recovery.

'I'm feeling great and I'm still optimistic. I've no feeling in my legs at the minute, but it's early days. My back is badly battered and bruised and there's a lot of swelling. I'd be hoping when all that swelling and bruising goes down, some of the nerve damage might repair and some feeling might come back.'

McNamara was transferred from Wexford to Dublin almost immediately after his injury and it's believed that the treatment he received on the south-east coast was instrumental in preventing any more serious long term injuries.

'There's plenty to keep you occupied, I'm enjoying my days and I'm in great spirits. I've no negative thoughts whatsoever. It was a surprise I was allowed to go outside, it went grand and it was a beautiful day for it. My mother and father were there and it put a smile on their faces, which is lovely to see as it hasn't been easy for them either.'
