CM Punk’s mentor has a very realistic take on his impending UFC debut

Back in February, CM Punk announced he was five months away from serious discussions with the UFC about when his debut bout would be. Punk [real name Phil Brooks] has stepped away from the wrestling ring, and the WWE, to pursue a long-held dream of mixing it with the best, inside an octagon. His switch from sports entertainment to tap-out brawling has been met with skepticism but Paul Heyman, Brooks' mentor, has revealed that the 36-year-old is not expecting miracles when he finally steps inside the ring. During a podcasted chat with Steve Austin, for FOX Sports, Heyman commented, 'I don't think money is the motivating factor in his life whatsoever. I think it's the challenge to do this. 'This is something he's been eyeballing since he was a kid, and I think he looks back and he probably regrets not getting into it five or six years earlier, but this was the time to pull the trigger on it.' Heyman, who is still involved with the WWE and manages former MMA star Brock Lesnar, added:

'I think he firmly believes he is either going to step in that Octagon and shock everybody by beating somebody's ass, or he's going to get punched in the face and knocked out or tapped out and beat up, and I think that he's very accepting of the fact that that's a possibility.

'He's man enough to walk in there and take his chances.'
