Conor McGregor’s two-fight plan to climb back to the top of the UFC mountain

Two fights, two belts?

Conor McGregor has revealed how he plans to be back at the top of the UFC mountain with two fights that could see him finally achieve his dream of being a multi-weight world champion. The featherweight strap-holder suffered the first setback of his UFC career when he was submitted by Nate Diaz in Las Vegas last night, and has conceded that he will now be required to defend the title he won from Jose Aldo last December. But McGregor is already looking past a defence against either Aldo or Frankie Edgar to finally get his shot at the lightweight belt. The Notorious clearly has a future as a matchmaker as he mapped out a series of fights that could happen before the end of 2016. "I think 145lbs will be next, I will defend my featherweight belt," he told the media at the post-fight press conference. "I believe Nate will fight [Rafael] dos Anjos now and I think, after I defend my belt and climb myself back up, that I will get my shot at that lightweight belt once again. "So maybe me and Nate can do it again." Asked who he believes deserves the shot at the featherweight title, McGregor admitted both contenders were deserving in their own way. "I'm not sure," he said. "It's kind of hard not give Aldo another go, he was ten years undefeated. But he pulls out a lot, he doesn't show up a lot. "Frankie, at least, gets in there and competes. I'll keep my ear to the ground and see who the fans want most, who the fans want to see me defend the belt against. "But then I'll sit and wait patiently for the lightweight belt to contested and then I'll get back up." So, we're talking McGregor vs Aldo/Edgar and Dos Anjos vs Diaz (possibly both at UFC 200?), with the winners facing off the lightweight title in December? Sounds like a plan the UFC could get behind...
