Conor McGregor won’t face criminal charges after sexual assault allegation

Conor McGregor will not face criminal charges after the UFC star was accused of sexual assault during an NBA Finals game between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets in Miami last June. McGregor was alleged to have committed sexual assault in the bathroom of the arena, something which the MMA fighter and his team denied four months ago. In a statement, McGregor's lawyer said: "After a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against my client, Conor McGregor. "As anticipated, this decision by the authorities confirms Mr. McGregor’s account of the evening. On behalf of my client, his family and his fans we are pleased this is now over." According to a closeout document from the case, the Irishman was alleged to have entered the men's bathroom with a woman at the Kaseya Center, and the pair were later spotted together at a club later that night. Prosecutors confirmed that a bathroom attendee who was in the restroom at the same time as McGregor and the alleged victim, was interviewed as part of the investigation. The witness said that he "did not hear any signs of distress or sounds that would corroborate that whatever was occurring was not consensual." The report also reveals that when the accuser reported McGregor to the police, she asked them if he would like to "pay her off" or "settle" if she did not pursue charges. McGregor's friend also claimed that the accuser failed to mention any sort of attack, and had called her mother that same night to tell her that she had met the former UFC world champion. The Florida court memo read: "In light of the above facts and circumstances the State would not be able to satisfy its burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt." A report from TMZ revealed prosecutors cited "insufficient evidence" whilst also having "contradicting and/or no corroborating witnesses." Related links:
