Ex-UFC fighter James McSweeney gets fired for asking to do his job

To paraphrase the immortal words of Homer Simpson, trying was the first step towards failure for James McSweeney.

The Ultimate Fighter 10 competitor has been released by Singapore-based MMA promotion ONE FC for requesting a fight on Facebook. McSweeney (14-12) is 2-1 for ONE FC, with both of his wins ending in highlight-reel knockouts. However, he lost his last bout via third-round TKO loss to Roger Gracie last December. The 34-year-old was hoping to be booked to fight again earlier this year, but it never happened. After being inactive for over a year and a half, the British light heavyweight took to social media to vent his frustration.

McSweeney said he was informed a few days after posting the status, that he was cut from the promotion.

"What upset me is the childishness of it and the way it was done. For two years, I gave them my career. I fought three times. I gave my heart in my fights and won by big knockouts. I did a lot of social media for them and appearances and then just to do that is unprofessional."

McSweeney made the semifinals of TUF 10, beating Wes Shivers and current UFC heavyweight dark horse Matt Mitrione, before losing to eventual champion Roy Nelson by TKO.

McSweeney went 1-2 in the UFC,  winning his promotional debut by first-round TKO against Darrill Schoonover, before getting cut after scoring successive TKO losses to Travis Browne and Fabio Maldonado.
