Jon Jones’ chances of headlining UFC 200 against Daniel Cormier have taken a major blow

More trouble for the former champion.

The hope of Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier fighting before the end of 2016 is in tatters with the disclosure of the UFC 197 medical suspensions. Jones won his fight with Ovince Saint Preux at the weekend,  but MMA Fighting claims the light heavyweight could be facing six months out if an x-ray of his left foot comes back with a bad result. Jones is set to be hit with a six-month medical suspension if it is found that he has broken a bone in his left foot, which could mean no fighting until October. The former undisputed UFC champion went the full distance with his opponent, with OSP facing a lengthy medical suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission after suffering a broken bone in his arm inside the octagon. Several other fighters are also likely to be ruled out for a considerable period of time, including Rafael Natal, Robert Whittaker, Sergio Pettis and Glaico Franca. Jones and Cormier's rematch was expected to be the new headline event for UFC 200 after Conor McGregor's fight with Nate Diaz was pulled from the card. However, depending on the extent of his injury, and indeed Cormier's own recovery from a leg problem, it may mean any fight between both men will now not happen until much later in 2016.
