Jose Aldo backtracks on IV ban comments, claims he was “joking” and “pissed off”

Some surprise would have greeted Jose Aldo's previous stance on the IV ban as we saw a defiant, obstinate Aldo for the first time.

Come October, UFC fighters will no longer be able to rehydrate using IVs as the promotion must adhere to the WADA code as they attempt to clean up the sport of mixed martial arts. But featherweight champion Aldo maintained that nothing was going to stop him from using IV treatment after his weight cut. "They came here saying oral rehydration is better, but I don’t know how they came up with that," Aldo said recently. "Any sick person that goes to a hospital, the first thing they do is an IV. "I will continue to do an IV. I don’t care. I’ll tell them I’m going to eat and do it instead. I don’t f*cking care about them. They won’t take me out of the fight anyway." But UFC VP of Athlete Health and Development Jeff Novitzky has claimed that the Brazilian has apologised for those comments and said they were misconstrued by the media.
