Khabib Nurmagomedov addresses rumours that he was eating cake before botched weight cut

After UFC 209's co-main event was scrapped, everyone wanted to know exactly what went wrong with Khabib Nurmagomedov's weight cut.

It was arguably the most intriguing match-up in the history of the sport, and after falling through twice, it really felt like the third time was going to be the charm at UFC 209. Then the rumours started circulating on the day of the weigh-ins that Nurmagomdov was hospitalised. When the deadline passed without him tipping the scales, the promotion confirmed via press release that the rumblings were true. Another high-profile fight lost because of a weight-cutting issue. Podcaster and former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub claimed that the Dagestani wasn't acting professionally in the lead up to fight night. Schaub had it on good authority that he was eating ice-cream and 'bullshit food.' These rumours were only intensified by the clip from Countdown to UFC 209 showing Nurmagomedov and his entourage in a restaurant ordering tiramisu that began doing the rounds. Nurmagomedov really did himself no favours by stating 'This is Russian style. “I no understand why people talk about this. I don’t eat this. We’re going to restaurant and we chill together, everything, but [I was the only one] cutting weight."

According to 'the Eagle,' he didn't touch the cake at the restaurant and that clip was taken completely out of context. He admitted that somebody at his table ordered the dessert, but he didn't consume any of it.

"The other guys, no cutting weight, and everybody eat everything. But I don’t eat any of this stuff. I eat only my food. I no understand why people talk about this. Somebody ordered cake and somebody eat cake - of course somebody eat cake - but I don’t eat nothing. I don’t eat this cake. I did nothing, but I don’t understand why people talk about this.”

We guess it's his word against Schaub's.
