NSAC confirm that Anderson Silva failed his post-fight drug test

Anderson Silva failed his post-fight urine test according to executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Bob Bennett.

Silva tested positive for the steroid drostanolone, which is the same PED that showed up on an out-of-competition drug test that he failed ahead of his UFC 183 bout with Nick Diaz. The latest test failure revealed that the former middleweight fighter also tested positive for the the anti-anxiety medication Oxazepam and Temazepam, a sleep deprivation medication. Out of the three tests which Silva provided to the commission, he failed two - namely the first out-of-competition test which he took on January 9th and his post-fight drug test on January 31. Interestingly, his second out-of-competition test which he provided on January 19 came up clean. Being a first-time offender when it comes to testing positive for PEDs, Silva was expected to face a nine-month suspension from professional competition and it is currently unknown whether this latest outcome will affect the NSAC's decision on punitive measures. "I can't speak for the chairman nor can I speak for the commissioners," Bennett told ESPN.com. "But something I find particularly concerning is that he tested positive on Jan. 9th and then he tested negative on Jan. 19th. If he took this orally, it only stays in your system 5-to-7 days. "So, obviously, he used it sometime around Jan. 9th and then he used it shortly before the night of the fight. Whether the commission finds this egregious -- that he tested positive twice out of three times -- is up to them. "I certainly find it concerning and unacceptable. It gives an unfair advantage to the person on that. God forbid, a serious injury were to occur to an opponent when someone is on something." H/t to ESPN.com
