Peter Queally’s time with Russian promotion likely over following Allah comment

It looks like Peter Queally's working relationship with Fight Nights Global has come to an end.

Waterford welterweight Peter Queally (11-4-1) signed for the Russian promotion in 2016. He has fought four times under the FNG banner going 2-1-1. After winning his promotional debut unanimous decision against Igor Egorov, the SBG fighter dropped a majority decision to Islam Begidov before a controversial draw with Kuat Khamitov, the latter result being overturned from a majority decision loss. His last appearance for FNG was easily his best showing. In the headline act of FNG 87, Queally scored a sensational first-round knockout against David Khachatryan. "The fighter did something stupid"

That stunning KO is likely the last performance Queally will have with FNG. The promotion's founder and president Kamil Gadzhiev claimed through an Instagram statement that they have cut ties with Queally. The decision was made as a result of Queally stating that 'Ireland was more powerful than Allah'.

"You have a right to be upset with me."

Queally has since issued a statement on Instagram offering his sincere apologies for the 'bad joke'. He seems very regretful for what he admitted was a mistake.

"I want to apologise to the Muslim community for my comment “Ireland is more powerful than Allah”. It was a bad joke that i shouldn’t have said. I am not religious and didn’t understand how hurtful this statement would be. I have been shown nothing but kindness by Muslims during my time in Russia, I have great respect for Muslims worldwide. It makes me very sad to think that Muslims who cheered for me as i fought are now disappointed and angry with me. I have made a mistake and I sincerely apologise. You have a right to be upset with me, but I hope that you can forgive me."
