UFC middleweight Caio Magalhaes will be counting his blessings after being slapped with a six-month suspension and 40 hours of community service for unsportsmanlike conduct by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Magalhaes received the punishment for spiting blood on opponent Josh Samman and referee John McCarthy after a first-round submission loss at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale on July 12.
At his hearing on Thursday, he repeatedly apologised to McCarthy and the commission for his "absurd" actions, before claiming that he had "buried the hatchet" with Samman over dinner after the fight, which Samman felt was an exaggeration.
