Video: “Aldo will kick his ass” – UFC stars react to Conor McGregor’s interim title win

Joseph Duffy, Michael Bisping and other UFC stars give their take on Conor's McGregor's belt-winning performance at UFC 189.

The Notorious' second round TKO victory over Chad Mendes earned him the interim strap and a unification bout against Jose Aldo. He also won a lot of respect from his fellow competitors for that performance. However, UFC middleweight Thales Leites wasn't all that impressed with the Dubliner's phenomenal performance against Mendes. The Brazilian told MMA Jnukie that he is certain McGregor poses no threat to Aldo's belt.

"One thing I can tell you for sure, he doesn't have any chance against Aldo. Aldo will kick his ass, standing, on the ground, on the takedowns. He (McGregor) fought against a tough opponent, but (who) hadn't enough time to do all his camp." "Chad Mendes is a tough fighter, but he wasn't 100% capacity for this fight, everybody knows, and McGregor was 100%. He did all the camp, everything . Things happen for a reason. When Aldo got injured with his rib was serious, he was feeling pain to breathe, so that is no way to fight. "Now McGregor's interim champion, he'll fight against a true champion. I don't know if it will be this year, I hope so. It will be a great show and Aldo will kick his ass."

Joseph Duffy was a little bit more complimentary of the Notorious.

"I leaned towards Conor because I knew he had that knockout power. Obviously, it only takes one shot. I knew Mendes would have to work hard for five rounds to get the win. Judging by that I thought the odds were that Conor was going to catch him."

Marcus Brimage, who McGregor brutally knocked out in just 67-seconds in his UFC debut, admitted feeling a little better about his loss after UFC 189.

“It looks good that Conor McGregor won because he beat my ass. You want to get your ass beat by the champion, not a scrub. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
