Chad Sermon devised an ingenious game plan to avoid the heavy head kicks from his opponent at the Hardrock MMA 43 event. By keeping his hand on the mat, it meant that Brian Kerr (we checked, it's not him) could not land a head kick as it would be counted as an illegal strike.
However, Brian Kerr the maverick decided to ignore the rule book completely and fired a devastating kick to the dome of the crouching fighter, knocking him out cold. Kerr was disqualified from the bout after the scoring the nasty blow and amazingly, Sermon was awarded the victory without throwing a single shot.
Technically Sermon's bold move paid off but it was hardly worth the cost of being rendered unconscious in such a manner. Something tells me we won't see Rafael dos Anjos using this ridiculous strategy in his title fight against Anthony Pettis in the UFC 185 headliner.
