Andy Farrell admits he’s “learned a lot from Joe” as he prepares to take over from Schmidt

Joe Schmidt has the perfect opportunity to go out on a high.

Schmidt has positioned his Ireland team perfectly to challenge for next year's World Cup and confirmation arrived on Monday morning that Japan 2019 will be Schmidt's final tournament in coaching. Schmidt will be replaced by current defence coach Andy Farrell after Ireland's involvement in the World Cup comes to an end Farrell, who joined the Ireland set-up in 2016 ahead of the summer tour of South Africa, has been credited with a large portion of the national team's success in recent years. "It is a privilege to be considered for such a prestigious role," Farrell said. After that, it will be in Farrell's hands but Schmidt has assured concerned supporters that those hands are safe.
