This is so clever.

There are plenty of things that rugby nerds get giggly about. One is throwing a short ball in the lineout, another is bringing a runner back through the lineout, and a third is a successful chip over the top. If you combine all three, you have the perfect storm of rugby geekery, that may well result in fans wetting themselves with giddiness. The Ospreys scored such a try at the weekend in their 21-10 win against Glasgow at the weekend, and it was as pretty as it sounds. The lifting pod in the lineout ran backwards, taking the Glasgow support with them. Hooker Scott Baldwin then threw short to Nicky Smith, who fed scrun half Rhys Webb as he charged through the chasm in the centre of the lineout. Webb flicked a perfect chip over the head of the last man, before reclaiming the ball and sliding over the line (for added effect). The beauty of the try is the sheer number of things that had to be perfect for the try to be scored. The lifting pod needed to sell their move to the opposition in order to create the gap. Nicky Smith needed to subtlety take the lineout at the front, which can be a massive problem for props with hands of lead, and Rhys Webb's chip needed the perfect landing to evade the Glasgow defence. Sadly, The Pro12 have already begun voting for Try of the Season, so this can't be included.
