Ireland set a mighty World Cup record before ball was passed against Romania

Their opponents are their nation's most experienced side - 728 caps and an average age of 29 years 345 days - to ever play at the tournament. Today, fans of both teams helped set a new World Cup record. Ireland versus Romania at Wembley Stadium is now the holder of the highest attendance at a World Cup match. Given that today's match is the final one Wembley - home of the English FA - will host, Ireland will hold that record for at least another four years.
