Leinster release very worrying Joey Carbery injury update

Ross Byrne looks set for his first European Cup start this weekend.

Leinster have been rocked with news that a number of first-team players are unlikely to play in the return fixture against the Northampton Saints this weekend. Leinster fans will be disappointed in the news that Joey Carbery is to see a specialist this week to determine whether surgery is required on his injured ankle. Incumbent, Ross Byrne, who acquitted himself well in his first European Cup appearance, is expected to be fit to start as club officials confirmed that he and Rory O'Loughlin received stitches for lacerations above their eyes. Rob Kearney, who withdrew during the game with an ankle injury is also a doubt after it was confirmed that he will undergo scans this week to determine the extent of the injury. There was better news for Sean O'Brien however, as the club state that the Carlow man did not suffer concussion and has now successfully completed the HIA process. Elsewhere, Robbie Henshaw and Michael Bent both came through the match at the weekend with no issues.
