Strange moment in Super Rugby game leads to match-winning penalty try

The Brumbies have beaten the Crusaders thanks to a strange match-winning penalty try.

Level at 24-24 and presented with a kick to potentially win the match, Brumbies out half Noah Lolesio struck the uprights to the momentary despair of his home fans.

'Momentary' is the keyword here. Moments later, the ball rebounded into the in-goal area where it was adjudged to have been slapped out of play by Crusaders second row Quinten Strange.

Following a TMO review, it was decided by referee Ben O'Keeffe that Brumbies' chasers had a legitimate opportunity to score from the rebound, only for Strange's act of foul play.

Strange was subsequently yellow carded and, in a miraculous turn of events, a penalty-try was awarded, making it Brumbies 31-24 Crusaders.

This was much to the dismay of Crusaders head coach and former Munster boss Rob Penney who has endured a difficult season at Christchurch.

The traditionally formidable Crusaders find themselves in tenth place in this year's competition as they struggle to adapt to life after Scott Robertson.

It's fair to say unfortunate moments like this are not going to help their cause whatsoever.
