Nevertheless, the game offered Ireland some respite of sorts, although against weaker opposition, the display that day reminded Ireland fans of what this Irish team can offer.
Ireland were excellent that day and it set us up nicely for the final game against Scotland in Dublin a week later.
Today's match in Rome, Irish fans will hope, can offer the same sort of medicinal impact that this Irish team needs.

After the disappointing nature of last week's display, Ireland need to put in a performance not only to keep their championship aspirations alive, but also to remind themselves, that they are a good team and one which can have belief and trust in their tactics and systems.
Thankfully, the rugby can finally do the talking, and after an arduous week filled with regret and discontent, Ireland can finally get their campaign back on track with a win against Conor O'Shea's Italy.
RTÉ, as ever, have released a promo video in the build-up to the match and although it reflects on the disappointing nature of last week, it reminds us that we have an excellent record against Italy and that all is not lost.
