Ajax wonderkid open to moving to Liverpool

Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has said that he is open to joining Dutch teammate Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.

De Ligt is among the most talented young players in Europe and admitted after Ajax's 4-1 demolition of Real Madrid on Tuesday that he would be open to a move to Merseyside.

"Virgil is a player who has experience in the top leagues," De Ligt told Omnisport. "Of course you want to learn from him. It's very useful to play next to him in the Dutch team. "It could happen [joining Liverpool]. He plays for Liverpool. A nice club. "But I'm not focused on this. I focus on Ajax. And then I will see where I will end up."

Meanwhile Ajax director of football Marc Overmars insists that his club are under no pressure to move de Ligt but the former Arsenal and Barcelona winger did concede that he expects De Ligt to join one of Europe's top-six clubs.

"For me, se Ligt can play easily for any of the six best teams in the world,' Overmars told Spanish newspaper AS. "Right now, he has the power, the mentality. He has the heart. "If I worked at another club, I would like to sign him immediately. We do not need to sell him, we do not need the money, why be too rich? But I know he will go to one of the big ones."
