The defender was on loan at PSV between 2004 and 2007, where he played 84 times and chipped in with 11 goals.
After his time with Chelsea, the Brazilian moved to PSG, where he remained for two seasons. After his period in the French capital, he moved to AC Milan, where he also stayed for two campaigns.
